Known for her electric stage presence and galvanizing live shows, Meklit Hadero has rocked stages from London to Cairo. The Ethiopian-American vocalist and songwriter makes music that sways between cultures and continents, blending jazz, folk and East African influences. An innovator and activist, Meklit founded the Nile Project and serves as a National Geographic Explorer and a TED Fellow. Her latest album, When the People Move, The Music Moves Too, reached the top of the iTunes World Music Chart.

For this Meany On Screen performance — recorded live at Studio 124 in San Francisco — Meklit performs an intimate virtual concert featuring a solo performance of songs and stories, told via voice, guitar and the Ethiopian krar.

Meklit

is developing a new work, Movement, as part of her work as a Mellon Creative Research Fellow. Co-commissioned by Meany Center, Movement wil be a live concert experience with storytelling and multimedia, creating a meditation on what it means to be American.
